BALI 2018

June 9-16th, 2018 | The Brilliance of Being @ Honai Resort, UBUD, BALI

JUNE 9-16th, 2018 | UBUD, BALI

- The Retreat -

"At the very heart and core of our being, there exists an overwhelming YES to existence. This yes is discovered by those who have the courage to open their hearts to the totality of life." – Adyashanti

In one of the most beautiful places on Earth, immerse in an experiential journey of liberating the heart and rediscovering the brilliance of Being. This week-long retreat will support you in releasing burdens of the past so you can be more fully available to the gifts of the present.

The program integrates yoga asana, breathwork journeying, meditation, and dharma talks to support personal growth and liberation. The yoga will be accessible to all-levels, including Vinyasa, Kundalini, Yin & Restorative to release tension in the body and reclaim vital energy flow. The breathwork journeys offer a vehicle for “experiential therapy” in which profound healing, insight, and remembering can occur. Daily meditation offers the opportunity to continuously return to the ground of being – expanding awareness to a space of equanimity and that which lies beyond the narrow constructs of mind and the temporal experience.

You will have free time to relax, rest, and integrate, whether that be lounging by the pool or enjoying a luxurious massage at the on-site spa. There will also be group excursions throughout the week to experience the full flavor of the region, including a guided bike tour through the countryside (stopping at a coffee plantation, local temples, etc.), a waterfall ritual, and visit to Ubud’s Monkey Forest. There will also be an optional trip to The Yoga Barn to join the local community for an evening of ecstatic dance.

Your home for the week will be the Honai Resort, a beautiful retreat center located just outside Ubud – Bali’s cultural (and yoga) hub. You will enjoy the peace and tranquility of the rice field setting, with easy access to town should you decide to explore during free time or enjoy lunch at one of the amazing cafes in town (vegan and gluten-free galore!).

This retreat will be a rich and potentially life changing experience – come to reclaim your joy, your inspiration, your YES!...and to shine in the pure brilliance of your being.

“The purpose of yoga is to facilitate the profound inner relaxation that accompanies fearlessness.” – Erich Schiffmann

Honai is a beautiful resort in the quiet outskirts of Ubud - just a 15-min drive/shuttle to the town center. Built as a modern interpretation of the traditional Indonesian Honai, or round house, the resort features 12 guest suites that encircle a central swimming pool. Honai offers an on-site restaurant (providing three meals daily) and phenomenal spa, so you might choose to stay on property for the duration of the retreat, or take the free shuttle into town to explore. Bicycles are also available at the resort for your adventuring.

June is an ideal time to visit Bali, with average temperatures in the 70's & 80's. The rainy season is October to March, so June is more dry, though still quite warm.

For travel to Ubud, flights should arrive and depart from Denpasar International Airport (DPS). A 30-day tourist visa can be purchased on arrival for $35 USD. Ubud is approximately a one hour drive from the airport, and taxis are generally $20-30 USD.

The retreat will begin with dinner on Saturday, June 9th. If your schedule permits, I highly recommend extending your stay to further explore the island (or neighboring islands, such as the Gili Islands).

Lodging & PRICING:

Honai's guest rooms are beautifully appointed and feature A/C, Wi-Fi, luxury linens, en suite bath (w/ bathtub), and private patio or balcony. There are lock boxes in all rooms to store your passport and valuables.

Double Occupancy Rate: $1,900

Shared rooms feature two twin beds. If you have a roommate preference, please indicate so when registering (and please note the shared rooms have beds in relative close proximity). If you're traveling alone and wish to have shared accommodations, I will do my best to pair you with a well-matched roommate.

Single Occupancy Rate: $2,500

There are limited number of single rooms available; early registration is highly recommended if this is your preference.

RATES include 7-nights accommodations (and hotel taxes), three gourmet meals per day, retreat programming, and group excursions & activities.

Honai's restaurant offers contemporary interpretations of Indonesian vegetarian and pescetarian dishes, with organic and locally sourced ingredients, when possible. The food is healthy and delicious, perfect for supporting the work of the retreat and helping you feel amazing in your body.

Vegan, gluten-free, and special diets can be accommodated.

Throughout the week, there will be optional group excursions to experience the rich flavor of Ubud and surrounding area. We will visit the long-tailed macaque monkeys and sacred Temple inside the Monkey Forest Sanctuary, and based on group interest, we will take one day mid-week to enjoy a leisurely downhill cycling tour through the countryside. This tour includes stopping in the rice paddies to learn how rice is grown and cultivated, a tour of a Balinese coffee plantation, visit to a village temple for an introduction to Balinese spiritual beliefs, and a traditional lunch at the home of our guide.

There will be two evening excursions to The Yoga Barn in Ubud to enjoy the gifts of community: kirtan (devotional chanting) on Sunday, and ecstatic dance on Friday.

The Balinese are masters of the spa experience, and you will not want to leave without treating yourself to one (or several) treatments during your time at Honai! The resort features an in-house spa named after the sacred tropical grass - Darbha - that is used to purify offerings during rituals. Services include various styles of massage and full-body treatments, detox and anti-inflammatory treatments, and facials. A full-service menu can be reviewed HERE.

Tai Hubbert

As a yoga teacher, breathwork facilitator, and healing arts practitioner, Tai supports the process of releasing burdens of the past so one can be more available to the gifts of the present. Her approach is one of working from the top down and bottom up – working at the intersection of spirit and embodiment for integrated, heart-centered living. While Tai draws on a wealth of knowledge and direct experience from various traditions (Zen Buddhism, mestizo & core shamanism, Yoga, Christian Mysticism, and modern psychology), her orientation is one of inviting awareness to that which is beyond conceptual understanding – to a direct, embodied knowing of Source and one’s true Nature.

Tai's teaching is influenced by contemporary spiritual teachers Jeannie Zandi, Thomas Hubl, and Adyashanti; yoga teachers Tias Little, Annie Carpenter, Erich Schiffmann, and Donna Farhi; and shamanic practitioners Sandra Ingerman and Betsy Bergstrom. She is registered with Yoga Alliance as an Experienced Yoga Teacher and Continuing Education Provider, and received teaching certification at The Himalayan Institute, under the guidance of Dr. Rolf Sovik, Shari Friedrichsen, and Sandra Anderson.

Josephine Edmondson

Josephine Edmondson is known for her poetic, free-spirited approach to teaching yoga. Her classes are shaped by intimate breathwork, deep meditation, mindful movement and immediate presence.

She encourages you as a student to slowly sense and trust your intuition, becoming conscious and awake in the body. This process helps to retrieve your inner power, allowing you to tune in fully, instead of suffering and numbing out.

Josephine’s style of yoga is inspired by kundalini, kripalu, tantra, restorative and yin styles. She has studied under David Elliott, Guru Jagat, Krishna Kaur, Danny Arguetty and Priti Robin Ross over the last nine years.

If you have a hunger for a deeply meaningful practice, and want tools to help navigate the external world, come to Jo’s class. It will be a lovely homecoming.

Tai’s gentle, wise words with the balance of her strengthening, powerful presence, created the space for me to heal and grow at the retreat. Her humility and genuine heart of compassion facilitated one of the most transformative weeks of my soul. Tai steered when I needed a nudge of direction (in yoga practice or in a conversation through her questions) and graciously allowed space for me to explore my own capacities, providing her supportive silent presence, when she sensed strength and wisdom in me, I had not yet discovered.
— Elizabeth K.
I feel that Tai works tirelessly to maximize the benefits of each person’s experience, be that in yoga asana where her sequencing allowed for a considerable range of ability and her attention to each of us through verbal cues or physical adjustments brought tremendous gains; or in one of the mindfulness practices: guided meditation, journeying, individual engagement, or breathwork. The breathwork ceremony in particular is an extraordinary experience which could be unnerving if it weren’t for the sense of absolute safety and security that Tai inspires. That she nurtured and sustained that space for growth - attending to every exquisite detail - for three different practices on each of seven days is astonishing, and is a testament to the wealth of her experience and her genuinely unique gifts.
— Rich S.
I would describe the retreat as life changing - meaning deep physical, spiritual, and emotional healing. Tai has had many varied experiences with multiple healing modalities that allow the student to benefit greatly - she is a wonderful teacher, guide, and healer.
— Heather A.
I came to retreat to do the work, to experience more and to open up myself more. I knew that this work would not necessarily be easy and so wanted to do it within a contained, supported and safe environment – which you fully provided. I’ve changed and grown from my whole trip, and a large part of this is due to you – not just the practices (asana, meditation, breathwork, movement, journeys, etc) – anyone can offer this if they really wanted to – it’s the sincerity, integrity and commitment together with playfulness that you brought to retreat that really made it the wonderful experience it was. I can’t wait to come on retreat with you again.
