April 22-29, 2017 | Weaving the Tapestry of Life: A Tantric Yoga & Meditation Retreat @ Blue Spirit Resort, Costa Rica
WEAVING THE TAPESTRY OF LIFE:
A TANTRIC YOGA & Meditation RETREAT
APRIL 22-29, 2017 @ BLUE SPIRIT RESORT, COSTA RICA
- The Retreat -
For those seeking to find deeper fulfillment, simplicity, and joy in their lives, this Tantric yoga & meditation retreat offers the perfect opportunity to immerse in a rich experience of Being and self-discovery.
Tantra means “to weave,” and the tantric tradition is one of ENGAGEMENT. It is a practice of turning towards life, orienting from the perspective that our very essence is of perfection. The practice of yoga helps us dissolve that which obscures our true nature, creating more capacity to embody our highest potential as Spirit in action. From a tantric orientation, the spiritual experience is woven into the fabric of everyday life. It is not something we just do on the yoga mat or meditation cushion, but a living, moment-to-moment practice. The barriers between “spiritual” and “material” are dissolved, resulting in a rich tapestry of life experience that is imbued with vitality, abundance, possibility, prosperity, creativity, and love.
This retreat offers the framework and guidance to support the deepening of your practice at all levels, including the ability to simply ENJOY life and find deep contentment, empowerment, and ease of Being. Core pillars of the programming include:
MEDITATION: Meditation and contemplative practices allow us to experience the part of ourselves that does not change – an eternal well of energy, creativity, wisdom, and love. In learning to anchor awareness in this place of Being, we cultivate our ability to navigate the currents of life with equanimity and grace. Your days will begin and end with seated meditation (silent & guided), and several meditative and contemplative practices will be woven in throughout the week.
YOGA: Each morning you will enjoy a 90-minute asana practice (vinyasa/hatha flow) to clear, circulate, and build your prana (lifeforce energy) and set the foundation for an incredible day. Yoga is truly the science of energy management, and in these mindful vinyasa yoga sessions, you will refine awareness about how to work with breath and subtle energetics to deepen and advance your practice. More importantly, you will evolve as your own healer, learning how to assess what YOU need and how to use the practice of yoga to best support your lifelong well-being and development. I teach a mindful, strong, ALL-LEVELS practice, with a combination of dynamic heat building sequences and longer hatha-style holds for deepening and refinement. Mantra, mudra, visualizations, and nyasa (placing consciousness in different parts of the body) are utilized to enhance the practice, and the afternoon sessions will be a combination of slow flow, yin, restorative, and yoga nidra practices.
BREATHWORK: In addition to yogic pranayama, at least two (optional) “transformational breathwork ceremonies” will be offered. These are intense, potent, and beautiful opportunities to access a state of expanded consciousness and awareness for your healing and personal growth.
RITUAL & CEREMONY: In addition to breathwork ceremonies we will conduct a fire ceremony and other nature-based, simple rituals to enhance our connection to the great web of life.
NATURE: Nature is a wonderful teacher, and we will immerse in our beautiful Costa Rican jungle home for healing, nourishment, and awakening. Nature-based meditations and rituals will be offered, as well as plenty of free time to soak up the strong prana of the land and elements.

LOCATION & GETTING THERE:
Blue Spirit is just outside of Nosara, on the Northern Pacific coast of Costa Rica. It's perched upon a hilltop overlooking the Southern end of a 3-mile white sand beach, protected as a turtle refuge. The spectacular nature and bio-diversity of this region – one's of the worlds five designated Blue Zones* – will provide the perfect opportunity to be nourished by the gifts of Nature, while being nested within a beautiful retreat center.
The facility offers four, beautiful practice spaces and a wide range of housing options. The beach is an easy 700-foot walk across the lush grounds, and a saltwater infinity pool offers the perfect opportunity for an afternoon dip! Blue Spirit has a luxury spa where you can book anything from a massage to craniosacral work, and there is a cafe serving smoothies, fresh juices, coffee, and baked goods for mid-meal refreshment. Blue Spirit's staff is available 24-hrs at the reception desk, and free WIFI is available should you need it.
Costa Rica has two international airports, and it's recommended to fly into Liberia International Airport (LIR), from which a Blue Spirit shuttle can be booked at a charge of $60 (2-hrs from LIR to Blue Spirit). An alternative is to fly into San Jose International Airport (SJO) and from there, take a short domestic flight (40-min) to the Nosara airport (20-min from Blue Spirit).
I recommend taking red-eye flights leaving Friday evening, arriving first thing Saturday morning so you can arrive on the property by mid-day and have an opportunity to rest and ground before we officially start around 4pm. Dinner is the first meal served on Saturday. You might also consider extending your trip and arriving a couple days early to explore Nosara or surrounding areas.

Regrettably, I cannot offer refunds after Jan 15th, unless I am able to book another guest in your reservation.
ADDITIONAL Q&A FOR YOUR PLANNING:
- Will we be at Blue Spirit for the duration of the retreat, or will we explore surrounding areas? There is a town about 10-min away by car, or 40-min walk along the beach. You are welcome to explore on your own or with other members from the group during free time. As a group, we will likely take ONE group adventure, most likely a canopy zipline adventure, which offers the opportunity to explore the jungle canopy and surrounding nature. You are also encouraged to extend your trip for a few days to explore more!
- What travel documents do I need? You will need a valid passport and return ticket; a visa is NOT required for tourism visits less than 90-days. It's always a good idea to bring extra color copies of your passport, and passports can be left in room safes.
- Should I get travel insurance? For international retreats and travel, it's always recommended to have travel insurance.
- What type of currency should I bring? Blue Spirit accepts all major credit cards and US dollars for spa & excursion activities. Most Costa Ricans accept US dollars.
- What type of electric outlets are used? All rooms have electricity, and the voltage is the same as in the US. You might like to bring a headlamp for navigating the property at night (sunrise is around 5:30am, and sunset around 6pm).
- How do I get from the airport to the retreat center? As mentioned previously, shuttle arrangements (from Liberia airport) can be made through Blue Spirit. If you arrive at off-hours, taxi services are also available. Shuttle fees are approx. $60 each way (1.5 drive).
- I am new to meditation and/or yoga, will the retreat be accessible for me? Yes. While it would be beneficial to have some experience with yoga asana (sun salutations and foundational asanas), I will be teaching an all-levels practice that can be modified, as needed. As a teacher, I offer flow-based sequencing with articulate alignment instruction, including more dynamic, heat-building sequences, along with longer holds for deeper release and exploration. I do play music during class that supports the movement journey, typically instrumental music that enhances – not detracts – from the experience.
