Lighting the Path: Advanced Yoga Immersion

Advanced yoga immersion With Tai hubbeRT

September 2017 - MARCH 2018 (55hrs)

The act done with knowledge, with inner awareness and faith, grows in power.
— Chandogya Upanishad

For advancing yogis, this immersion offers the opportunity to engage the deeper essence of the teachings to see yourself more clearly and work with the structures that inhibit the full expression of your essential being.

While the practice of yoga may have transformed your life and brought you to heightened states of awareness and physical vitality, there is often a plateau at which it becomes more routine in managing the ‘symptoms’ of life, rather than engaged to excavate the deeper terrain of one’s psyche and conditioning that influence the reality you experience.

In a yoga climate that overemphasizes the forms themselves (particularly on the mat) , this immersion offers the rare gift of an intimate, safe, and challenging container in which you will receive reflection and lean into the teachings to make the unconscious conscious, and do the work of profound personal growth. While you will advance your understanding and practice of the forms (asana, meditation, pranayama, etc.), the intention is one of experiencing what’s beyond them, and cultivating greater capacity to rest in the field of awareness and being. In doing so, you engage the true heart of yoga, and serve as a clear vessel for the organic expression of the Divine, for the benefit of all.

"A great thing indeed to be the ruler of nations, Greater still to be the gentle master of your own being." -Haven Trevino

For dedicated practitioners, you have the opportunity to deepen your practice in a committed program that’s oriented more towards personal development than core curriculum found in teacher training programs. Our exploratory will follow the current of what’s alive in your life and practice, with plenty of opportunity to dialogue about aspects of the practice that are relevant to your evolution and growth.

For teachers, this immersion is intended to support integration and heightened self-awareness. Ultimately, your capacity and efficacy as a teacher lies not in your ability to recite techniques of the tradition, but the degree to which you’ve integrated and lived them in your journey of personal growth and awakening. While you will deepen your knowledge of the forms in this immersion, you will be challenged to apply them and see beyond them – including any unconscious attachments you may have to the framework of yoga, and related spiritual bypassing that might occur. In doing your own work, you can show up to serve others from a place of greater clarity and compassion.

As a YACEP provider with Yoga Alliance, this course qualifies for Continuing Education Credit hours.

The immersion will be well-balanced between theoretical teachings and discussion to support self-study (svadhyaya) and experiential practices to support gnosis – direct transmission and knowing that comes from your experience IN the practice. Over six months, you will be held in an experiential deep dive based on four pillars of inquiry and practice:

In this immersion we will engage honest inquiry and discussion about the teachings of yoga as applied to everyday life and address what's surfacing in your experience, on and off the mat. While most yoga trainings scratch the surface in this regard, this immersion offers a safe, supported, and (beneficially) challenging environment in which to receive reflection and mentorship to support your growth and evolution. As an advanced program, this offering is intended for sincere practitioners who are prepared to lean into blind spots with absolute commitment to personal growth and awakening. Topics of inquiry will include core wounding and related armoring (often presenting as our "strengths"), yin and yang dynamics (resting in the ground of being and true yang & warriorship), the relational field, trauma, egoic strategies, spiritual bypassing, and surrender to the Divine.

This immersion will offer in-depth teaching and embodied exploration of the subtle body to support increased discernment (viveka) in all aspects of your life. Through discussion and somatic inquiry, you will map the terrain of your inner landscape, with reference to the chakras, nadis, granthis (psychic knots), and pranavayus. You will deepen your understanding of how to use pranayama, mantra/sound, visualization, diet and Ayurvedic principles, and nyasa to shift non-beneficial patterns and support the blossoming of your Being. Breathwork journeys (in the Rebirthing/Holotropic tradition) will be engaged each Sunday session to support recalibration to Essence and your experience of anusara (“flowing with the current, with grace”).

Saturday sessions will include asana workshops to refine practice of the physical postures and support increased activation, awareness, and long-term health of the body. We will build from the ground up, connecting what's disconnected and observing movement relationships (weakness/strength, underwork/overwork, etc.) and related correlations to life. In working with a high degree of refinement, you will practice ahimsa (non-harming) simply through increased knowledge and discernment, and you will reap the rewards of a revitalized practice that serves your journey of embodiment. Peak poses will be taught with the necessary steps to build strength, flexibility, and breath activation to explore them safely and beneficially.

Teachings will draw from yogic philosophy and Hindu mythology to support self-inquiry and reflection. Throughout the immersion, we will explore the teachings of both classical yoga and Tantra, and teachings from texts including the Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, and Vijnana Bhairava.

What is "advanced" yoga? It's a good question to consider! For the purposes of assessing your alignment for this training, it is intended for teachers and practitioners who are committed - courageously and humbly - to integrated growth and awakening. Advanced doesn't necessarily mean making more complex and demanding shapes with your body, but a heightened degree of discernment (viveka) and awareness to support one's liberation (moksha). Participants should have at least 2 years of yoga asana practice, and a general understanding of the philosophical framework.

To support the alchemical potential of this program, it is requested that you make the immersion a priority and make every effort possible to attend all sessions, for the benefit of all in the group. If you have pre-existing conflicts with any of the dates, please contact me to discuss before registering.

To deepen the work and benefits of this immersion, you will be encouraged to commit to 20-minutes per day of felt sense/somatic-based meditation for the duration of the program, as well as journaling or other form of capturing insights, experiences, and reflections.
