Corporate Breathwork

Breathwork experiences for corporate teams, retreats, offsites, and employee wellbeing programs.

Breathwork is one of the most effective and accessible ways to clear the debris of stress and open the mind to new perspective and re-inspired creativity.

For corporate retreats, events, and ongoing programs to support employee wellbeing and development, breathwork is a high impact for low investment resource that can help your employees and organization thrive.

Why breathwork for your business?

While some degree of stress can increase performance, we all know the adverse impacts of chronic stress, from reduced concentration, memory, and decision making faculties, to physical and psychological symptoms such as decreased immunity and increased anxiety and depression. The organizational costs are significant: reduced performance and productivity, turnover, interpersonal challenges, and negative morale.

While meditation, yoga, therapy, and other modalities can help, they often require long-term engagement. Breathwork is the quickest way to release accumulated stress and tension from the body and nervous system, and to help people access the full spectrum of their innate gifts and capacities.

Breathwork also catalyzes “flow state” experiences, in which profound insight, vision, and perspective becomes possible. Flow states enable creative problem-solving and seeing things from an entirely new perspective, as well as heightened sense of possibility and potential.

Flow states can be induced by activities like long distance running, meditation, and psychedelics, but breathwork is the most accessible route, especially in the corporate environment. In breathwork, brain activity in the prefrontal cortex is reduced (in a process called transient hypofrontality), which helps people transcend the “monkey mind” and tap into new neural pathways that support creative connections and intuitive solutions.

Now more than ever, pandemic and societal pressures have increased stressors across the board, and organizations have an incredible opportunity to not support employee performance and growth at work, but to positively influences all aspects of their lives.

As a senior breathwork facilitator and trainer, I have been guiding experiential journeys of healing and self-discovery for over a decade, working with individuals, couples, public groups, and corporate teams.

Having facilitated thousands of sessions over the years, I have the experience to skillfully respond to any situation that might arise, and can speak intelligently about breathwork and share it in a manner that feels accessible and safe to all. Your team will know they’re in good hands with a facilitator who is genuine, authentic, grounded, and who guides from a place of deep integrity.

With a former career in business development for creative agencies and recruiting, I am uniquely qualified to bring this work into the corporate space. I have negotiated deals with Ferrari, pitched to executives at HBO, and recruited senior talent for companies including Microsoft, Amazon, and Starbucks. I can effectively engage with large and diverse groups, from executive teams to technical engineers. I am an inspiring public speaker and bring uplifting energy, humor, and kindness to this work.

As an event coordinator, you can expect to work with someone who is professional, organized, responsive, flexible, and reliable (not always the case with wellness practitioners!).

I am trauma-informed and take great care to ensure every participant feels supported in their experience. I make myself available for all participants to contact me before/after the session at no charge to ensure I answer any questions they may have or provide resources for aftercare and integration.

This is my life’s work, and I hold it with utmost integrity and care.

Considerations for Corporate Breathwork Events:

  • While breathwork can be a rich and powerful experience for most teams, it has the potential to take people into very deep states of experience, and as such, requires the appropriate degree of care and consideration. This includes:

    • Considering the dynamic of the group and potential vulnerability of a process that can catalyze emotional release, and expanded states of consciousness.

    • Creating enough time in the retreat schedule to accommodate a deep experiential process like breathwork, with time after for people to integrate the experience without having to immediately switch gears.

    • Sending information to participants in advance to ensure they’re fully informed about what the breathwork experience entails, with choice to opt in/out.

    • Ensuring there’s a safe and well-contained space for the event, with no outside interruptions (people walking by or in/out, public visibility, etc.).

Due to the physiological and psychological effects of breathwork, it is not advised for those with certain conditions, including: pregnancy, extremely high blood pressure, glaucoma, epilepsy, bipolar disorder (unmedicated), schizophrenia, dissociative disorders, or histories of severe trauma and/or PTSD. As such, it’s important to be aware that this type of activity might not be appropriate for all employees, and these contraindications must be shared with all participants, with choice to opt in/out of the experience.

  • Breathwork can be experienced online (Zoom meetings/presentations) or in-person, or a hybrid with some participants joining on Zoom. Online events can accommodate an unlimited number of participants, while in-person events benefit from a higher facilitator-to-participant ratio. I generally hire assistant(s) for groups over 16-18 participants, and if a group size exceeds 40 people, I generally recommend offering two separate sessions. Please contact me to discuss the specific details of your event, and I can make recommendations accordingly.

At minimum, I recommend 90-minutes for a breathwork session, and ideally, 2-hours. This allows time for a brief introduction and Q&A (around 15-minutes), a 60-minute breathwork journey, and 15-minutes in closing to share, ask questions, etc. In a 2.5-hour experience, there is more time for group sharing/processing after the journey.

For longer engagements, I offer integrated experiences of yoga, meditation, and breathwork, and am also available to facilitate multi-day retreats.

  • Breathwork is generally done reclined on yoga mats, and requires reasonable buffer (around 2 feet) between each participant to ensure people feel safe going into an expanded state process. As a very general rule of thumb, it’s ideal to plan for 40 sq ft per person (20 people in an 800 sq ft space, minimum).

In addition to a mat (or some kind of cushion beneath), breathers will need one blanket each (2 is ideal), plus a thin pillow. Often hotels are able to provide these for conference room events, otherwise props often be rented from a nearby yoga studio. If the event coordinator is not able to arrange these items, I can do so for a supplemental fee.

A good sound system is essential for breathwork (with bass), and it’s ideal to book the event in a space where music can be played at decent volume.

  • It’s important to be aware that breathwork is an extremely high-risk activity for potential Covid transmission, as it involves active breathing through an open mouth for approx. 50-minutes, and wearing a mask is not ideal for the practice. As such, all participants must be made aware of that risk, with choice to opt in/out based on their personal preferences and tolerance.

I highly recommend that all participants are required to test before attending the retreat/event, and that efforts are made to ventilate the space well.

As a facilitator, I am fully vaccinated and boosted, and will test several times leading up to the event, and immediately prior.

All liability for related known and unknown risks must be assumed by the hosting company, as detailed in the service contract.
