Baja Retreat - June 2023

A Personal Retreat at Prana del Mar in Los Cabos, Mexico

"In a world of noise, confusion, and conflict it is necessary that there be places of silence, inner discipline and peace. In such places love can blossom." – Thomas Merton

You Are Invited to a Week in Personal Retreat

This week in retreat is offered to those seeking a quiet and beautiful place to rest, renew, and replenish. It is a “light touch” retreat experience with daily morning meditation and yoga, and the remainder of the day yours to enjoy as you wish.

Prana del Mar is a stunning retreat center on the beach, about 45-minutes north of Cabo San Lucas. Your retreat is all inclusive, with three gourmet meals served daily (vegetarian/pescetarian), and amenities to enjoy including a saltwater swimming pool and hot tub, sauna, verandas on your single or shared suite, and transportation to/from the Los Cabos International Airport.

You can sign up for excursions including a day trip to Todos Santos, horseback riding on the beach, or a trip to Cerritos Beach for swimming or surf lessons. Prana del Mar also features an amazing on-site massage therapists for spa treatments.

Your retreat teacher and host is Tai Hubbert, an experienced Hatha Yoga Teacher and Breathwork Facilitator. Tai will be teaching a Breathwork Facilitator Training Program in the afternoons, so as a retreat guest, you will also have the opportunity to join some breathwork sessions facilitated by Tai and practitioners-in-training. Breathwork is a powerful modality for healing, insight, and deepening self-awareness, and could be a beautiful addition to your week in retreat.

Prana del Mar is only open to retreat groups, so this is a rare opportunity to leave the tourist energy of Cabo San Lucas behind and enjoy a more tranquil and wellness-focused stay in Baja.

8:15-9:30am: Hatha Flow Yoga

LOCATION & GETTING THERE:

PRANA DEL MAR | BAJA MEXICO

Prana del Mar is located near the southern tip of the Baja peninsula, just north of Cabo San Lucas. Located at the beach on five acres, the tranquil, desert setting provides the perfect environment for deep inner work. The resort features just 16 rooms and suites for an intimate experience, with two yoga studios (Sun & Moon), pool and hot tub, rooftop deck, sauna, spa services, gourmet meals, and a gracious and attentive staff. During free time, support you integration with a long walk on the beach, or journaling from your chaise lounge or the rooftop deck.

Flights should be booked to San Jose Cabo International airport - sometimes called Los Cabos (SJD) - and a private shuttle will take you to the resort (approximately a 45-minute drive).

Lodging:

Prana del Mar offers luxurious and spacious accommodations, with amazingly comfortable beds (organic linens & pillow-top mattresses) and private terraces with your own chaise lounge.

DOWNSTAIRS - KING BED

Ideal for the single guest desiring privacy or a couple, these rooms feature one king bed, with additional seating area and en suite bath (dual sinks & separate shower and bathtub).

UPSTAIRS - TWO QUEEN BEDS

The upstairs suites have two queen beds, combination living room/dining room, kitchen, and en suite bath (single sink and shower over bathtub). These are the most spacious shared rooms I've encountered at a retreat center, so plenty of space for you and your roommate to spread out.

DINING:

Prana del Mar's cuisine is truly phenomenal. They source organic ingredients when possible and feature a  primarily vegetarian menu, along with fresh fish. Sensitive care is taken to accommodate special diets, including vegan, gluten-free, and other allergies. Needless to say, you will be nourished well and enjoy beautiful Mexican and international dishes prepared with love.

ACTIVITIES & SPA SERVICES:

Upon arrival at Prana del Mar, you can sign-up for additional activities during your free time (some excursions do have a minimum participant requirement). While typical excursions in the area include kayaking, surfing, day trips to Todos Santos, cooking classes, horseback riding, and more, we encourage guests to stay at the resort for the duration of the retreat to support the health and safety of our retreat group and the Prana del Mar staff. Horseback riding from the Prana del Mar beach is recommended!

There is an on-site spa for massage and bodywork treatments, as well as a sauna.

INSTRUCTOR BIOS:

Tai Hubbert, E-RYT / YACEP

As an experienced breathwork facilitator, yoga teacher, and integrative wellness practitioner, Tai supports the process of releasing burdens and embodied stories of the past so one can be more fully available to the gifts and possibilities of the present.

Tai has been a practitioner of yoga and meditation for 20 years and received teaching certification while in residence at the Himalayan Institute, studying under the direction of Pandit Rajmani Tigunait, Dr. Rolf Sovik, Sheri Friedrichsen, and Sandra Anderson. She has studied extensively with Annie Carpenter in the SmartFlow yoga system, and has been strongly influenced by Tias Little, Donna Farhi, and Dr. Douglas Brooks. As a spiritual practitioner, her path has been supported by the teachings and mentorship of Adyashanti, Jeannie Zandi, and Thomas Hubl, as well as Hakomi psychotherapy. Tai has been guiding breathwork journeys for individuals and groups for a decade, holding strong and loving containers for deep therapeutic and transformational experiences.

REFLECTIONS FROM RETREAT GUESTS:

Tai’s gentle, wise words with the balance of her strengthening, powerful presence, created the space for me to heal and grow at the retreat. Her humility and genuine heart of compassion facilitated one of the most transformative weeks of my soul. Tai steered when I needed a nudge of direction (in yoga practice or in a conversation through her questions) and graciously allowed space for me to explore my own capacities, providing her supportive silent presence, when she sensed strength and wisdom in me, I had not yet discovered.
— Elizabeth K.
I did not know Tai before attending her retreat. I was so impressed with her wisdom and grace. It was like being with the gentleness of a sparrow and wisdom and groundedness of the great redwoods of Northern California. She brings an energy and a depth to her teaching that is impressive and humbling. She created an environment that allowed me to really go deep into my own self and look at aspects of my disposition I had never seen. I could not recommend her retreats or training with any higher enthusiasm or praise.
— Josh J.
Tai facilitated a phenomenal yoga, mediation and breathwork program. Her humility, down-to-earth attitude and sense of humor allowed me to fall in love with yoga again.
— Christiane H.

ADDITIONAL Q&A FOR YOUR PLANNING:

  • Can I swim in the ocean? Generally, the waves and currents on the Pacific coast of Baja are too rough for safe swimming. You will have the opportunity to take an excursion to a swimming-friendly beach, otherwise you might mindfully wade into the breaking waves, or take a dip in the pool.

  • Is there A/C? Prana del Mar is entirely off-the-grid and rooms do not feature A/C. However, all rooms have ceiling and floor fans, and stay relatively cool both day and night.

  • What travel documents do I need? You will need a valid passport, and for those coming from the US and Canada, no visa is required. It's always a good idea to bring extra color copies of your passport, and passports can be left in room safes.

  • What time should I arrive and depart? If possible, aim to arrive on Saturday in the 11am-3pm window. The retreat will begin with an opening circle at 5:30pm, followed by dinner at 6:30pm. For departures, plan to leave Friday afternoon, ideally in the 12-3pm window. The retreat concludes with breakfast on Friday.

  • Should I get travel insurance? For international retreats and travel, it's always recommended to have travel insurance, especially plans that cover Covid-related cancellations.

  • What type of currency should I bring? Cash (US dollars) is recommended to pay for spa services, tips and gratuities, and many of the excursions (some outfitters except credit cards, but some do not). There are no ATMs in the immediate vicinity of the resort, so it's a good idea to come with extra cash for anything you might want to enjoy on retreat.

  • What type of electric outlets are used? Should I bring a hairdryer? If you are coming from the US or Canada, your electronics will work without an adapter (all of North America uses the same standard plug for 110V connections). Please note that the resort has some hair dryers, but if you NEED one, please bring your own, and consider that their electricity is entirely solar-powered, so discretion is requested.

  • How do I get from the airport to the retreat center? Shuttle transfers from San Jose del Cabo (SJD) are included in the retreat. A shuttle will be arranged to meet you at the airport, and it's a 45-minute drive to the resort.

  • What Covid-precautions and safety measures can I expect? While there is inherent risk of exposure in travel, Prana del Mar has strong safety protocols in place to support the health, well-being, and comfort of all retreat guests.

    • Employee training for enhanced cleaning, sanitizing and personal hygiene (frequent hand-washing and hand-sanitizing).

    • Employee temperatures will be taken at beginning of each shift. They have a stay-home policy for any employee displaying symptoms or an increased temperature as per WHO guidelines.

    • Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the property.

    • Less frequent housekeeping for any guest rooms that request it.

    • Whenever possible cleanings will be done when guests are away from their rooms.

    • Cleaning staff will use masks and gloves and follow best practices including extra sanitizing for high touch items.

    • Kitchen staff will wear protective masks, hair covering, and gloves inside the kitchen.

    • There will be no guest handling of food at the buffet. Some meals may be served plated. In some cases, meals may be served buffet-style, with the resort staff serving requested portions while guests stand at a distance.

    • Social distance in dining area will be encouraged and sliding glass doors will be open to increase ventilation.

    • Yoga studios will be cleaned and sanitized before and after practice.

    • Housekeeping staff will place extra focus on disinfecting high touch areas.

    • Each studio's capacity will be reduced to ensure appropriate distance between each yogi.

    • Guests will have the options to select their yoga mat and props and keep them for the length of their retreat. Labels will be available to identify them. Guests will be allowed to take their props to their rooms if they prefer for peace of mind.

    • Disinfectant wipes will be freely available in each studio for our guests to clean their equipment.

    • Single occupancy is encouraged, except for couples or known friends or family members.

    • An online check-in option will be offered.
